Erasing tracks (scrobbles in this instance)

I deleted my last.fm (audioscrobbler) account after failing to see any reason to keep it.  They’ve had years worth of tracking data since 05 from me when I last looked and I get little to nothing in return.  The ads have become obtrusive (not as bad as YouTube which is an abomination now), the stats irrelevant and very little progress towards integration.  I’m looking for something new, contiunally being an early adopter and seeing many music sites struggle and change their long term plan. We7 as a start up has gone through several iterations of its model, originally it worked, but now it has landed on a weak one this time around.  Back to last.fm:

The stats side for me has been a major issue considering there are many types of things I listen to and it’s not all on one device.  Let’s start with my iPhone, it’s great I use it everyday and play everything and anything on it.  This is where the problem lies, since I bought into this ecosphere I now listen to an inordinate number of podcasts, it’s unbelievable and it’s as if I’m always trying to play catch up.  Notably I’ve started dropping various subscriptions recently due to quibbles with personal preferences.  Here’s the point, it really messes up my stats for audiscrobbles and I didn’t really want them to appear.  It became more trouble than >> >> >> »

First Ever Ignite London – 7 videos now live #igniteLDN

If you couldn’t tell by the numerous tweets on Wednesday I was at the first ever Ignite London which was a blast.  Great speakers giving 5 minute presentation, great organisation from Amy & Dan of BoxUK, which also supplied the open bar for the evening.  Now that’s a way to kick off an event and were ever so grateful.

I filmed the event and am uploading the HD videos during non-throttling ISP periods, so I’m trying to average 3 videos a night.  As said previously if I get the nod from everyone involved I will consider making this a podcast on the iTunes & Zune platform but with a more professional touch.

The vimeo channel for Official Ignite London videos can be found here: http://vimeo.com/channels/ignitelondon

For a quick overview of everything that is available they can be viewed by the albums page: http://vimeo.com/album/147178

If you do get hooked on vimeo like me then feel free to subscribe to the channel so you can be informed of the latest uploads from the event.  Another option is to follow it via the RSS feed if Google Reader/Bloglines etc. is your thing.  Also please leave comments on individual videos or just in the shoutbox it will hopefully get everyone noticed and I’m sure the speakers & organisers will appreciate it.

I hope to get more involved in the future and maybe even give a 5 minute presentation.  I really do hope this becomes a regular event and more sponsors come on board.  Plus you can’t beat an old converted victorian loo as a venue.

Ignite London is coming :D

Ignite is finally coming to London on the 18th November 2009.  I’d have loved to have heard about this earlier and give a rapid 5 min lecture on something I love, but it looks like I missed the deadline.  Also I have no clue where to start and would probably need moral support, something I’m rather lacking recently. Anyway I am definitely attending.

If you’ve never heard of Ignite here’s their philosophy:

Ignite captures the best of geek culture in a series of five-minute speed presentations on topics ranging from The Best Way to Buy a Car to Hacking Chocolate. Imagine that you’re on stage in front of an audience of hundreds of people, doing a five-minute presentation using a slide deck that auto-forwards every 15 seconds, whether you’re ready or not. What would you do? What would you say? Could you stand the pressure? Every week, find out how some of the smartest minds on the planet dealt with this situation as your host, Brady Forrest, highlights a different talk from Ignites around the world.

The event is being hosted at the wonderful Ginglik, which used to be an old Victorian loo from what I remember when I went to see Aqualung there.  I can’t explain any better than the above paragraph and I just hope enough people know this great event about anything and everything is happening. I implore you to come along and have a fantastic night for absolutely free!

Here are a few of my favourite 5 min lectures:

Heartbeat under

No matter how much I try
There seems no end
The endless wire continues

Leaving life and moving in
I could always see it in those eyes
It’s no longer the first time

Wasn’t it only a year
Since I was in this same position
I said I don’t really want to talk about it
