We leave it all behind

I twist and turn, but I know there’s only
one way out of this.
So if there’s anyone listening, press your ear to the radio

I’ve been half watching the presidential style debates and before I go any further, no this isn’t going to be a long drawn post on politics. It’s just been rather pressing on my mind recently. How many voters watching this charade have actually read the manifestos of each party understanding the separate policies? Now how many are watching this charade making their mind up who to vote for on how “good looking” “articulate” “positive body language”. Then how many people actually even knew that Nick Clegg existed?

I believe we are heading into a dark period of politics, whether it be a hung parliament or the fact that out of the blue (with nothing short of a miracle) the Lib Dems somehow get their foot in. The inexperience of the Lib dems is scary and I know how they can completely cock up a town and destroy the community and livelihoods of the inhabitants. They even had the cheek to phone me up (how the hell did they get my number?) to ask who I’m voting for at the next election. Then I find out that it was a last minute calling to “prospective young voters” to convince them to turn up at a Cleggmania event to show support. They can get right royally stuffed.

Don’t get me started on how inaccurate the polls are to reality and the pathetic small sample groups they extract the information from.  I think I’ve said enough on the matter.

I hope the cheery song is a contrast to this rather dire rant.  Hopefully I’ll get a gig in sometime soon, I’ve applied for Tony Bennett tickets to the @itunesfestival .  Although I’m tempted to see Damo Suzuki’s Experimental Music Festival @theluminaire , he’ll be around for 3 days and his youtube channel always seems to be a delight.  Fingers crossed for the weather on Wednesday, be lucky.

Erasing tracks (scrobbles in this instance)

I deleted my last.fm (audioscrobbler) account after failing to see any reason to keep it.  They’ve had years worth of tracking data since 05 from me when I last looked and I get little to nothing in return.  The ads have become obtrusive (not as bad as YouTube which is an abomination now), the stats irrelevant and very little progress towards integration.  I’m looking for something new, contiunally being an early adopter and seeing many music sites struggle and change their long term plan. We7 as a start up has gone through several iterations of its model, originally it worked, but now it has landed on a weak one this time around.  Back to last.fm:

The stats side for me has been a major issue considering there are many types of things I listen to and it’s not all on one device.  Let’s start with my iPhone, it’s great I use it everyday and play everything and anything on it.  This is where the problem lies, since I bought into this ecosphere I now listen to an inordinate number of podcasts, it’s unbelievable and it’s as if I’m always trying to play catch up.  Notably I’ve started dropping various subscriptions recently due to quibbles with personal preferences.  Here’s the point, it really messes up my stats for audiscrobbles and I didn’t really want them to appear.  It became more trouble than >> >> >> »

Guddy

Whilst the spinning glitterbal reminds of a great two nights this August, I can’t help but question why on earth I continue to go to gigs by myself. Maybe I’m moaning but just having me and my thoughts probably isn’t going to be a healthy affair.

I suppose I make up for it by chatting to the fellows beside me, but it just isn’t the same as having a gig buddy ready to try new music and have a laugh even if the music is crap or turns out to be some wacky band doing a weird rendition of “Rock The Casbah”. Yes that actually happenned with some odd Hindi and Enoesque additions. Eno always reminds me of Richard O’Brien for some reason and I’d love to just share a moment with them to hear their thoughts and inspirations.

Maybe it’s the fact I haven’t written something down in a while or that i’ve had some scrumptious fish and chips. Now being accompanied by a bottle of Corona could be helping matters along whilst I type this. Anyhoo I’ve got my camera in hope that I can take some blasted better photos then I tried earlier this year.

I think what I’m trying to say is that most people I know have little interest in the gigs/music I like to go to. Even though I have a wide genre in my collection.

So here I sit tapping away on this screen with my lime trying to stay out of the way. Hope you have a lovely evening, I sure will with the music.
