Simple Minds @ Wembley Arena Photos

These are the best photos I could take on the Fuji F610 whilst I had a 6+ foot guy swaying in front of me, hope they give an idea of how enthusiastic Jim and the lads were. Plenty of laughs all round on stage and a great reaction from the audience. A few videos will be winging their way online once I’ve mixed in the audio from the soundboard :D Including an unbelievable reworking of a track from the “Cry” album. Oh and the red lighting for a rendition of Neon Lights by Kraftwerk.
Oh yes and at the end of the gig before the lights came on, the house music started with “Brimful of Asha“. This lead to the band turning around and coming back on stage to have a little bit of a boogie to it. Now that was hilarious beyond belief, hope someone had video footage of that event :P
Just wish I could get a photo pass or something to use my SLR.

Where the hell have I been? I ask myself that all too often nowadays and to be frank the answer is still applying for jobs. In between scratching my head, getting my music fill and jolting side to side. As I write this I’m listening to some Spandau Ballet, so you can tell I went to sleep listening to compilation cassettes of love songs as a kid. The sudden revival of the band in my head is because Londonist offered me to review their gig at The O2 (due to the normal reviewer getting a ticket for a film at the LFF). There was no way I was going to pass up the offer of one of the greatest reformations this year. You can read my concise and 300 word review here, wish there was less of a limit but I suppose I rattle on sometimes and one of the passages was about most kids either being forced to listen to Spandau or similar to my experience of lovely love songs gently settling me down. Fingers crossed Londonist were happy with the result and I get more opportunities as if you know me, my music taste is all over the place.
Woah, I’m getting ahead of myself I forgot about seeing the lovely Kate Walsh at The Tabernacle, her soft silky voice along with the candlelit tables set a beautiful atmosphere. Breaks my heart everytime I go to one of her gigs but the words she sings just seem to strike a chord beyond compare. Hard to explain, anyway she’s lovely in person and even signed her cover EP to me :D Swiftly followed by the great gentleman Neil McSweeney later on in the week who released his long awaited new album (well in my ears). Such a great relaxed evening and there is no way he is the miserable Northerner which the press seem hell bent on mentioning. I remember the first time I saw him was waiting on the stairwell for Aqualung at The Spitz (now demolished for the refurbished Spitafields market). Wearing his cowboy hat and strolling up welcoming us with a “Howdy” and chatting to us for a bit before heading in to set up. From what I remember it was a solo act as he couldn’t get the Gents to make their way down. But the recent launch party at the mirrorball lit Luminaire was a full band set, hopefully you’ve had a chance to watch some of the videos I uploaded. Generally the songs favoured by most are Long Way Round and London Road. But as you can see this man loves his music and has passion so he’s got me interested straight away. If he tours again, I’ll be there.
Bar Camp London was a fantastic experience, even though I only managed to gather 2/3 hours of sleep after a Werewolf marathon. The unconference consisted of a mad dash in the morning to post your presentation title onto a grid for what time and room you wanted to book. Time slots were 20 minutes long and 10 minute breaks in between to allow people to mingle and move to their next choice. I’ll probably write up in another post as I feel I’ve run out of steam…
Neil McSweeney – Shoreline Album Launch Videos

Remember the gig I took photos of and shared 1 video of? Well because Neil’s music has been getting me through what can only be called unemployment in the Biomed field, I thought I’d share some more. I eventually forked out the $60 (not bloody cheap!) to get into the vimeo HD ecosystem, so here are the videos from the Neil McSweeney gig at The Luminaire for his “Shoreline” album Launch.
Hope you enjoy them as they took quite a while to upload. Please show your appreciation for the music by leaving a reply below.
